We are often asked by people, how do you take “good photos?”

Many  amateur photographers have also thought this question
when taking pictures, and the truth is  that is not a very simple
one. There are a lot of things to consider in order to capture the
perfect moment,  in order to fulfill your expectations and the
hearts of the others.

The image has to be captured for a reason, e.g. to show something
beautiful, to tell a story, to capture a moment. Moreover, if you comb
through your portfolio and find yourself asking, “why did I take that
picture?” there is a possibility that you are missing something, maybe
some of these characteristics or you have to reconsider the whole
photography chapter in your head.

So let’s start with the 5 top characteristics for a good photo:

1)Tells a Story

The Truth is that many photographs are about a story. These
stories can be numerous, from typical love ones to cruel war
scenes. The best examples of these types of images are found
all throughout news and photojournalism. One such example is
the man standing in front of a column of tanks on June 5 1989
in Tiananmen Square. (see photo here: Tank Man )

2)Emotions

Humans have a special relationship with their emotions. Emotions
can control you, can lead you to unexpected behavior, to
unpresented reactions and feelings, to thoughts you had never
before in your head. They can make you smile, cry, laugh, get sad,
angry or full you with something else. Imagine all these compined
and captured in a single photo. Here are some photos to better
understand that meaning (70 Most Powerful Photos) .

3)Unique Colours, Lighting and Contrast

Pictures with intense colours always captivate your eyes. They are
something different, something strange to you, that you probably
see for the first time. You just can’t stop staring. Here are some
example photos (Colourful Photos)

4)Detail and Imagination

This characteristic is a little bit difficult to be understood. It’s all
about a photo that pushes you to think out of the box, things that
are unknown even to experts, to whole human kind! The pillars
of creation by NASA is one of them. (click here to see)

5) Composition

It’s a must have for the perfect photo. It’s not necessarily only
about symmetry. It’s about the general concept, about a specific
element that makes the photo unique and helps the viewer to
understand the reason why. Here’s a simple example(click here).
